Marshmallow Root has an incredible ability to soften, cool, and moisten tissues and systems in the body that are overtaken with heat and tension. Because of this energetic signature, we are able to work with Marshmallow in a myriad of conditions. Most commonly we work with this plant in digestive, respiratory, skin, and urinary tract formulations. Did you know that Marshmallow has energetic and magical properties? As a flower essence (a form of energetic medicine), Marshmallow is indicated for a hardened personality, inflexibility, and inability to feel into one’s emotions. Marshmallow is considered to be under the Moon’s rulership in Medical Astrology, and belongs to the Water Element, overlapping with Earth as well.

Why we love this herb:
All parts of the Marshmallow plant have medicinal properties, from root to leaf to flower! There are quite a few non-native species that are classified as weeds and grow abundantly here in Colorado. Malva neglecta, or Common Mallow, is incredibly plentiful and has medicinal overlap with Althea. We love Marshmallow Root because they are one of the few demulcent (moistening) allies in the herb world, which is a much needed energetic action in our climate. Along with their many medicinal benefits, we often add Althea to formulas in order to balance the energetic scales. For ultimate mucilaginous content, we recommend brewing as a cold overnight infusion.
